When I passed the button "send", I felt so much. I took a deep breath and at the same time, had a tear running out from my eyes.

I eventually will have a successor after 1.5 month. I was about going to say "hopefully" but I didn't, I do believe in AIESEC in HONG KONG and I know there are always someone who CARES. They care and they wanna make changes, they wanna make changes so they stay and take actions. There's how I and what made me became.

"The world is full of people whose notion of a satisfactory future is, in fact, a return to the idealised past."

Someone said that to me and it made me think for quite a while.... what we think about future, is it really the things that we couldn't finish in the past or at least, not ideally or perfectly done in the past so we pick it up again and say that we're gonna do it better in the future? It might confuse people what is "legacy". Is it about what's left behind and must be continually to do or just undone the mistakes in the past and put it on the right track?

Loans of questions...When I was an elect, lots of questions about the organization, people and stuff passed in my head. I wanted to do so much and eventually, I learn to stay focus and prioritize. It's the rule of the game in AIESEC, you're not like CEOs in Corporate that like you're having 10 years to implement your long term strategies but much shorter, say 1 year. It's good to train up the leaders to stay focus and make constantly progress, and its bad that it's hard to identify what should be kept and what to start. Here in AIESEC, I learnt one thing:

What happens when the future has come and gone?

Thinking too much doesn't help, taking actions is the most important thing. Thinking for too long and too hard, the future already might come and gone. So TAKING ACTIONS.

Second, if the future has come and gone, what would I do differently? Did I do the right thing? Did I grap the opportunity and the moment?

At the end... The future belongs to those who prepare for it today. We don't received Wisdom, we must discover it for ourselves after ajourney that no one can take for us or spare us. It's about just ME, MYSELF.

1. We decided to go fot it. Before leaving to Turkey, I put this reposonsibility to Sandy, the acting MCP during that period to represent me to have meeting with Think Tank.. Thank you Sandy. Without you I do not think it would happen.

Storming the idea on a foreign land

In Turkey, Yuellis and I had quite a lot of meeting and discussion on how to make the dinner happen, reading through the input and questions raised by Think Tank, I was nervous and a bit lost as I found myself couldn't do much because I was not physically in HONG KONG and I made Sandy help me to sending the messages from me.

I felt heartache when I saw Sandy and Yuellis was up on Gmail to work on those things and waited for me to get online to ask me for clarification on some points, so she can have meeting with Think Tank..

Return to the Garden

On the flight retuning back to HONG KONG, I kept think about what should I do to the dinner and the theme of the dinner. I was so sick during the flight from Dubai to HONG KONG, I felt very sick and I kept fell asleep. It felt like I was between staying sober and dreaming, I thougth about the LC recruitment situtation, the 40th Anniversary Dinner, How to do IC Bring Back, NLDS 2007..... It wasn't a decent flight trip, however, somewhere somehow I got a picture in my mind, it's a Garden. The Garden with lots of tree and flower. It's so green and I could even smell the grass.

Not long after I back to HONG KONG, I had a meeting with my team and decide the theme for the dinner. I proposed to theme the dinner as "Welcome Back Garderners". After lots of discussion and selection, we finally chose it. Lots of effort put on researching the venue, price etc, we finally decided to hold it on 3rd Nov 2007.

Laughters and Challenges

It's the first time for me to engage alumni that is not from my home LC. I was nervous but somewhere very excited. I started to meet up with alumni from different LC, especially those MC/NC alumni, those ex-NCPs via e-mails, lunch and meeting. They are so nice and great! It's so enjoyable to talk to them and listen to their stories in their time in AIESEC. They don't know me, they questioned me but for the good sake. They encouraged me and showed me how much they care about AIESEC in HONG KONG. It kept me going and going...It made me laughed and felt energize.

At the same time, Yuellis was recruiting the OC team for the dinner, preparing the 1st draft and update of the celebration series.. thank you Yuellis =) It made us move forward and moved with a large step.

My first tear for the dinner

The first tear I cried for the dinner was the moment I realized I was totally out of capacity to manage Solar 2007 and also the 40th Dinner. The limited time made the LC find difficulties to invite alumni and MC Team didn't have much capacity to prepare the dinner. I was so frustrated. However, with the support from LCPs and MC, we decided to postpone the dinner to a more feasible timeline, we postponed to hold it in Dec.

Another round of crazy research and meeting

As the dinner was postponed, we had to search for another venue and think about how to manage the financial stuff. It was a painful but very interesting and meaningful time during the process. Meeting alumni, inviting external guests and confirming the venue and price and discussion with LCs and opinion leaders among alumni, I felt like I was a bit dizzy but knowing and understand a lot more about AIESEC and how people think about this organization. Its so motivated and at the same time, pressuring myself to drive better.

Final stage and getting ready

In the last month of preparation, quite a few of us was getting sick, Sandy, Yuellis..etc. I was a bit worring and I felt stressed. Solar 2007 just passed and the whole team was a bit exhausted becase of that. Cyrus was ouccpied for a whole month because of the LN day and AI ER Director visit. Bonida was busy with the exchange growth strategies and start preparing the SRB, finance Area stuff. Managers started to having mid-terms...

At the night of 17th Nov, I was looking at the bottle that I showed in Solar 2007, I read through the messages in the bottle again, it was thr 5th time I did that. The energy came back and I told myself I cannot give up and I want another drive and high time for AIESEC in HONG KONG.

LCs was doing their best to calling up alumni to invite them to the dinner. MC team did the same to callup alumni and invite MC/NC alumni. Think Tank members were helping out to link up people to join. Gary dedicated to be the moderator for the Alumni Chat. Everyone was on fire to drive and wanted to have many participants to join the dinner as we could.

It happened

on 1st Dec 2007. The Dinner finally happened, the work in the past 3 months paid off when I saw the alumni, new faces and old faces in the dinner. My MC babies, without you, I wouldn't be there.Without you, all of these things wouldn't happen. Without the supportive LCPs, we woulnd't have more than 150 people joined the dinner. Your work for the AIESEC in HONG KONG update was impressive and I appreciate what you have done to support the whole AIESEC in HONG KONG.

I am the one who always seek for the meaning of my existance, I don't know how much I mean to others and how much I mean to the organization. Even though it's just a number but somehow it made me start thinking. How many days of those 8538 days that made me really happy or unforgottable? This question could take me a month to think about, I am pretty sure there's no exactly a day that made me happy but the moments of day did. Our lives are full of moments, "days" are the frames of those moments. I tried to spend some time to write down those frames of my live-time...

Days in the field of Innocence

When we were little, like when we were babies or kids, we do not remember much on those "days", some random moments might flashed in head sometimes, I calle'em "Days in the field of Innocence". It's the very beginning time-frame of my life.

School Days

What comes next? Oh yea.. the "School Days", it's a frame about school, studies, learning how to be good and at the same time, I was learning how to be bad. In school, no matter it's primiary shool, secondary school or even university. The teachers taught me how should I behave and what I shall not to behave. As the results, I tried to behave on both, be a good person and a bad person. During those days, I do not remember much but some interesting moments.

The moment that I cried because I lost friends
The moment that I worked so hard on singing and studying to myself a good student
The moment that I did exactly the opposite from what my mom told me to
The moment that I screwed up in my study
The moment that I inspired by my teachers and thought that I found my way out but failed to reach it.
The moment that I thought about purpose of life and death

There are a lot more... but all I remember is moment, lots of moments and every moment could make a story. Maybe that's why it's amazing to think back about life, lots of pages about your life you're been written, but you don't remember everything, but in every chapter there's always some highlights, which are quite in details that you remember. These are the moments, both good and bad and all these become the most representing highlights in the chapters in your life.

AIESEC Days

Now, I am living my days randomly and unstably because I have different mood and experience every day. Those uncertainty and expected experiences create lots of moments in my life that generates different level of impact on me. My life in AIESEC... complicated and very very intensive experience. Lots of increditable and unforgottable moments happened during these 3 years. All I did was taking pictures but some important moments just couldn't described.. I am afraid that these moments will be faded away in my heard after years. And I know these moments should be remembered.. So starting from yesterday, I started filling in my emotion journey again, which is something I missed and hadn't been doing in the past 3 years. I started to make every moment to be worth it to be remembered.

Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood.

More days pass the more I understand about life, the more memories I have in head and the more stories I have.. and everytime.. I try to fly.

Recognize More Talents

"One of the greatest talents of all is the talent to recognize and to develop talent in others"

- Frank Tyger

This is not something new to me and I learnt from books and different leaders a while ago. It's easy to understand but hard to DO IT. I recognize talents and find it difficult to develop them. I am experiecing an interesting, at the same time, challenging time to develop a talent. I conciously tell myself not to put assumption in people and stop a while to use my intituation to judge. It's something hard for me as it's a habbit of mine for the past 20 years.

After working in this organization for years, I found that assumptions could be pretty easy to become stereotypes or bias. Developing talents is difficult, because if the person is willing to be developed and whether he's willing and open enough to change himself/herself is out of my control. I see goodness and badness in the person but what's the best way to develop the person is still blur.

In organizations today, leaders sometimes treat their team by jumping to conclusion by one of two issues. One little mistake in the early going and your potential is forever limited. If we too quickly draw assumptions and form biases from early performance that aren't fair to the person or the organization.

Great leaders are patient when evaluating talent and the potential contribution of team members. They understand that human resources are the organization's most valuable asset. They want every person on the team to be their best and give them every chance to do so. I am still learning to be a great leader.

I have been too quick to write off team members before they have a reasonable chance to show you their talent and I do not feel like make it happen again, especially in a team like this I am in, I cannot afford to mis-look anyone of as they are so important to me and I feel that I have a responsibility for them.

I want them to have a good team experience
I want them to be developed properly follow by their wills
I want them to be proud of their achievement of the AIESEC in Hong Kong 0708.

I am telling myself, this week, I have to be slower to judge those around me and quicker to provide them the instruction and support they need to succeed. Find ways to vent my frustration with mistakes that won't bias my perception of the person's overall worth and value to the team.

The test provided by Ronnie said that I am a projector, I wanna energize my team just like how they support me and make me feel great every day. It's 10 of us.. People say "The speed of the boss is the speed of the team."

It's time to speed up!! It's still alive and fresh.

The role shifted from delegate to delegate + MCP is totally different experience, just like Martin said, Legislation should be an enjoyable moment to feel and taste what's the real diversity and how to be yourself, it's not like watching how other acts and then follow without your own stand point. It's the first time I sat for the legislation by myself and it made me a bit nervous so I stayed up and had been sober during the whole legislation. It's a great experience.

IC 2007 is about Achiever, during the DLD, I got to know more about myself and how I should act in a team, it made me think a lot and confessed a lot. It's time to give it a change..

Hey friends, how are you doing? You guys left for a while even though I still can smile you guys humor and laughters, and even feel you're being with me.

I miss the old days but at the same time, I am enjoying my time with my team. Looking for more and seeking for more.

I need to make up my mind :)

My second and probably the last IC

Last year, I went to my first ever IC in Poland. Before I left HK I was busy to organize the trip to Czech Republic for the LCPs and got so excited about how Europe looks like.

In IC 2006, I was a delegate who knew very little about the Global Network and even my own AIESEC "Country", I was so curious about how AIESEC people talked about and how come they screamed and hugged all the time. The theme of IC 2006 was about The Pioneer. We are the Pioneer of making our dreams, AIESEC 2010, come true... loads of memories flashing my head now.

I cannot say my 1st IC was very very great, however, fair enough to say impressive and valuable enough to make me never forget. Those people I met are here in Turkey... how amazing to see they became MCPs, NST now. Surprising, to found that some of the people I knew in my first international conference, The APXpo in Phillippines, became LCPs now and attending the IC 2007 with me.

IC 2007, it's a very very especial conference to me, it's the first time I'm leading 11 smart and pasisonate individuals to the congress. Nelson, Bonida, Cyrus, Vin, Yuellis, Jonathanm, Ken, Kent, Nancy, Clara and Dominic. Every single of them are great and brilliant. Looking at their face during the conference, give me energy to move on...

This is the year of Achiever, I was The Pinoeer and now become The Achiever to lead AIESEC HK to realize the dreamof AIESEC HK 2008 and running on the way to AIESEC 2010. Achiever, to me is someone who have concrete goals about what to finish, who always look FORWARD and never stop from running to the destination.

It's the 3 rd year for me to be in AIESEC, I feel so old and so new at the same time. Being MCP is not an easy job, however, a enjoyable and challenging job to make me become a better one.

I wanna thank my team, both MC and national leadership team.

Bonida, thanks for being there anytime I need,no matter I am being sulky or being sick, when I am super high or extremely down.

Nelson, thanks for your hidden care, I know you do care of me under that humorous foxy smiles. You bring s laughters and new persectives towards things. I hope this IC bring you new energy and inspire you on what you wanna do and wanna achiever.

Cyrus, thanks for being with me all the time to complete me by being to different and so similiar at the same time. You're a good team mate who support me in different way. Thank you so much.

Sandy, thanks for supporting me when I am in need, lots of things that are not words could tell and show :) you know how much I care.

Yuellis, thanks for trusting me and my team. Thinking back how I knew you and got you in my team, it's just fantastic and make me feel even stronger :) with you to drive things with me, I feel so good and strong !

Joey, you make me think of the Beatrice in the past, the energy and passion about driving results make me so proud of you and wanna hug u!

Vin, you're a special person to me, very fresh, at the sametime, very smart to catch up things and always know what you're heading to. Thanks for being so naughty and good at the same time :) You make me proud and worryless to let yu drive the things you wanna see in your area. I believe that you thoughts and idea about AIESEC would inpire lots of people, don't let them keep in your mind but speak them out.

Vicky, thanks for being so great and make me feel great to have you in the team. :) You're the one who makes me think about a friend of mine, she's a person that I can tell her anything I feel and I feel so secure when she's around. You make me feel the same. :)

Jonathan, thanks for coming back to join my team and making lots of fun and great idea and bring us laughters. Having you in my team makes me feel quite relax and leave me no worries because you know what you need to achieve, andbring us lots of new persepctive and network from other GN. I am so proud of you! and I am looking forward to get more from you!

My LCPs.. you have no idea how I feel so proud you guys when I talk to the people in IC, your idea and point of views towards AIESEC, I hope this IC is energizing you and bring you some new idea about leadership and what the organization we are leading really is.

It's happy to know it's my second IC and a little sad that it's gonna be my last IC too.. though I may be the CC or other role in AIESEC in the future, but I am thinking... probably the last time to demostrate the AIESEC HK Roll Call as HK delegate.

AIESEC, I love you and thanks for bringing me so many memories and inspiration in my life. I am happy and I am alive.

Nadya

Nadya, one of the most important friends in my life. We overestimate the other's brain power

What could I do with my brain?

Lots of weird thoughts in head...

The stupid man who moves the mountain

The story of The stupid man who moves the mountain, have heard for thousand times. But how many people actually get what this story says and truly believe in your beliefs?

People read through the story, and said, " It's nonsense to think you can make a mountain move a away just by saying 'Mountain, move away', It's simple impossible.

Too many people have 2 misconception about belief.

1. They confused about wishful think and belief.
2. They only think that belief is related to thinking rather than driving action.

You can't wish yourself into an executive suit. Nor can you wish yourself into a five-star room, high-income job. You can't wish yourself into a position of leadership.

But you can move a mountain with belief. You can win success by believing you can success.

Belief, the " I'm-positive--I-can" attitude, yes it's an attitude, not just a thoughts in head, it generates power, skills and energy needed to do. When you believe I-can-do-it, the how-to-do-it develops.

Belief, strong belief, triggers the mind to figuring ways and means and how-to. It also makes others place confidence in you.

Do you have belief in yourself that you actually can do much more and better than you are right now?

Happy Birthday Bea :)

It's my birthday and feel funny when I think back how did I spend my b-day in the past few years.
In 2004, I had my b-day with my high school mates and was a bit stressed cos we still had A-level exams, not finished yet. I was pure, simple and all I wanted was getting myself a seat in university.

In 2005, I got a shock phone call on the day before my b-day, it screwed up my mood and I ended up grabbing Christy to talk in Canteen. My dearest Jong mates prepared a surprise celebration for me, suddenly brought up the b-day cake ( my favorite black forest) and sang the b-day song for me. MC 0506 witnessed the whole process so they knew it was my b-day. They were going to deliver session and I felt a bit unfortunate when I knew that I had to spend my b-day with meeting. However, the MC Director LC Development, Ron Tsang was being pushed by Gary ( the MCP ) to start singing b-day song for me in order to lead the rest of the ppl in the room to follow..... Thanks Ron, wanted to say it but I didnt. :P

In 2006, I have to go back to my LC office to deliver a session for my successors as transition, and they also brought me up a nice b-day cake :) Veeanne, Tiffany Chong was there with my Todais and their LCP Cafrany to celebrate it a bit more me before I left. :)

This year... 2007, my b-day just began, and I will have to spend my b-day on the Mock EGM of my home-LC :) Hahaha feel unfortunate again but also a bit happy because they are the future of AIESEC BU and AIESEC HK, spending some time with them would be kinda fun.

Haha. The last 2 years b-day spent in AIESEC, this year as well, next year... probably will be haha :)

Happy birthday Beatrice! You have a great year to begin with! I know you have lots of wishes but don't be too greedy!

REach for the star Be the star!

  Our Passion Our Future!

  MC Manager Recruitment is Opened!

Starting the AIESEC Journey for years, all of us have experienced and changed a lot, we have lots of memories that would never want to be erased; we have lots of experience want to share and lots of things that we want to DO!

How much time have you devoted in AIESEC to make it a better place? Try to put yourself as an audience and look at your own story in AIESEC; do you think it's completed? Do you think the story is excited and good enough to give it an end?

All of us are the audiences of you, we hope to see more, feel more and get more from your story. I had my first IPM, I had my first national planning conference as the facilitator, I had my first ...

Lots of things happened between 11th April and 4th Feb. ..

On 4th Jan, I was elected as MCP.
On 4th Feb, I got my Director Talent Management and Director Business Development.
On 4th March, I was on my way back from IPM to Hong Kong.
On 4th April, I was in the pre-meeting of NLDS, busy with the preparation of the National Planning Track, was getting so excited about the LN Day and the Session of 2010 and AIESEC HK 2008 with Sandy.

How about 4th May? I wonder what will I be doing :)

Life is random, I am enjoying the uncertainty. If life is planned and settled it's no more fun. Take the challenge and enjoy the uncertain feelings out of my comfort zone, though it takes sometime to erase the insecure feelings but I know I am gonna be fine.

I see a bright future
I see a brand new day
I see an excitied year to come
I see what I'm becoming... :)

AIESEC HK EGM

I'm the one who's being blessed :)

Bonide, Cyrus, Nelson and Viara, they are great and high potential talents. The most important thing is I have them as team mate in the coming Session :)

I have faith in them, I have expectation in them, I have excitment with them, I have some blur but motivated pictures in head when I think of working with them.

I am the one who's blessed to have all of them ( though i hope more to come hehehe ). I am not perfect, but they complete me and complete the team. We are so diversified with our "grow up background" :) We are from different LCs... HKU, BU, LingNan, CU... we have lots of common ground while lots of differences...

Share our similarities, celebrate our differences.

AIESEC HK 2008.... we are coming. I believe that we are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.

Song of how I feel about AIESEC :) Keep spanning in my head since my election..

Starting today :) I am not gonna waste another moment.
Even if I had the chance before I would have blown it.
But you brought me by surprise and you caught me just in time.

Every day, you gimme reason not to walk away
I stop believing that my world gone crazy
And if it is you'll save me

Today...so happy la!!!!!

Reverse

Suddenly, found that things around us are so amazing and interesting, everything is about reverse.

We all are stressed on some point, in or out of AIESEC, in or out of school. I hope I will not
ruin everything heheh~~~

3. MC election preparation, well even more challenging but SO MUCH MORE interesting... when
I filled in the applications I just realized how much and how little I knew about AIESEC.
Confusing and hopes and ideas were all over my head.

4. What's more?? Well AIESEC BU Annual Dinner, good starting part on improving self-image!!!
Oh yea elegant dresses and have to learn how to use make up!

5. Unknown plan for X'mas.... hm...

Well this is My December... and it all so clear. :P

Oh, just random, :) but this is my team, the only "completed" team picture ever! Quite a special and interesting experience.

Most of my time in AIESEC have been spent on working, TN selling, very few of time that I really could reach to members, have face to face talking with them. Staying in this organization for years... sometimes I would feel like I am trapped in a box, all i see, i live and think is about this organization and I explored most things in this box.

However, I found the magical thing which motivates me all the time to discover this box -- the new members. I like talking to them and would like to know more about how they think about AIESEC, their experience supposed to be different with mine. I grew up in the age of AIESEC 2005, a period about TN raising, all i had to do was raising TN and achieving a number.

Now, the new members are talking about experience, something more attractive, personal and interesting. I really really hope that they will enjoy their time here like me, and I also hope that they know how much they could give and contribute to AIESEC and to the world.

There is something playing like a magic in AIESEC, which links all of us up together to do something, i guess it's our vision. It made me feel so excited since it's something related to my honor project.

Diversity, heard about this word a lot after joining AIESEC. Living diversity, what does it actually mean? I thought that it means living with different culture, people, perspective etc. I feel so much more than that today.

Diversity is not only limited in races, culture but also educational level, socioeconomic background, belief, values. Challenge your world-view is the first step to lead to living diversity, but that's just the stage on knowing / recognizing. Living diversity is much more than that. It should be..

recognize -- understand -- tolerate -- making sense.

I think the part of tolerating is the hardest part to do. I understand cultural differences, however, can I tolerate it? Does it make sense to me? Maybe not. If i just understand and the cultural differences, I'm not truly living diversity. Living diversity is how much you can make different culture and values make sense to you. Well, at this moment, not all of those are making sense to me.

In AIESEC, I work with internationals, I work with people from different background with different beliefs and values, i treasure it and found it interesting. Differences united us to work on a common vision, that's how AIESEC is.

I think the top priorities of leaders should be "how to manage diversity?" If you could manage it well, it brings you lots of benefits, like innovation, new ideas and increase of productivity. If you failed to manage it, it brings you even more conflict and distance.

More and more companies should focus on diversity management, it's no longer a world with lots of boundaries but a flatten world.

The video of the Disney HR talks about Diversity Management really impressed me...Cross Culture communication management.

Education diversity.. should be an interesting topic to study. To analysis CEO's major and see how it affects their leadership style. It's always fun to analysis how organizational culture being affected by those factors.

The leadership I desire....

Leadership should be more participative than directive, more enabling than performing.

Waiting for the sun rise

After being sulky and unproductive for days... I started to get excited about the new generation, the blood of AIESEC cos I see hopes and future in AIESEC, but sadly I don't see hopes in myelf.

Pressure and depression is bothering me recently though I'm trying to handle it. Obviously I am a very result oriented person. Doing things but not generating results is something horribly unacceptable to me, not point to other people but myself. I'm not perfectionist but I know what I should make and what to get done, how come????? No results at all! I hate that.

Hopeless and helpeless kept annoying me.. maybe thats why AIESEC is a journey. No one said that everything is going to be smooth and always be the way you want it. I'm fighting, but fighting alone.

If I have none results.. how to convince myself to take a further step in another stage of AIESEC? Maybe it's stupid to think like that but it's something I really believe and I hope I can get through from it.

OK too much bullshit, gonna stop today.. I should let the frustration go.

NLDS

Back from NLDS for 2 days... Im still dizzy and feeling like i'm still in the conference. The conference was great, really like a conference, the mood, the venue, the facilitators, the elements etc... Comparing to my 1st NLDS.. wow haha it's just completely different.

I see member's potential, I see confusion in EB's eyes, I see the future of AIESEC Hong Kong, I see myself.

The conference made me think a lot and feel a lot. Last year, it was me sitting there to listen to the MC delivering differnet things to us, like what Organizational Health check, PBoX, @XP blah blah blah... this year it's about how to make the organization go better rather than basic introduction thing. AIESEC HK is going better and better.

I truely hope that we will the UBS Award in 2007, even though it's too early to dream about that, but i believe the ability and potential of everyone in AIESEC HK. We will get it.

During the conference, i kept asking myself if I did fine as a facilitator, it's the first time to be a facilitator in conference. Even though i just have 1 small session to hold, most of the time was in home group, but still i hope i did fine both in group or in mass sessions. I do know how suck it feels to have a bad facilitator...haha i hope i didnt make poeple feel like shit!!

Goal for Nov! Well good question..

I think information management is part of he knowledge management, knowledge should be supported by information, how about the rest of it? I think it comes with experience as well. We develop models, writing reports and keep copies of everything we make. Without description of process and suggestions ot recommendations, all of these things are information.

Well somehow its hard to define if it's information or knowledge, but i think knowledge is something implicit, something you can apply in similiar situation, it can help you to do decision making. Information is data, something factual and explicit. I study communication, always hear about encoding. Messages should be encoded to complete otherwise it's an imcomplete message. Well maybe information is un-encoded messages, those encoded information is knowledge.

A sudden reflection flashed in my mind during the lesson, how many so called KM things in AIESEC are actually knowledge? Are we managing information or really managing knowledge?
We kepe reports of every functions and keep the @XP, values blah blah blah for transition. Is it the only purpose of doing KM and the right way to do it? I doubt it.

Why we need KM, because knowledge is in people, people will leave the organization someday, the knowledge that they have would be gone as well. Normally we generate knowledge from information, like what sifus told me or left to me are the knowledge of them but when it comes to me, it turned out to be information cos they might be not appliable anymore. I have to internalized the information and then transform them to be my knowledge, something appliable that based on the past experience and current situation, thats knowledge.

Haha, well I feel like i dont know what i am talking about now, should go to bed.

In youth we learn; in age we understand

Today, I joined the @XP Sim. It was a great day and good experience with the new members. I still remember we tried to create a @XP Sim last year in LC but not quite a successful one, members knew about how departments functioning but not really experience what is going to happen to them. Also, it was a not a good Sim, well but we learn and seek for improvement! At least I heard that todais did pretty well in this year and they are improving.

The new members really impressed me a lot during the conversations that I had with them, they are high potential people. CoE… really, got its meaning and power there. The better we do, the better people will be attracted to join AIESEC.

AIESEC is a youth-driven organization, watching the members learning knowledge and how to do LC operations was really fun and touching. We AIESEC is developing people, I mean really want to provide learning opportunities. We want learners, and make learners to be action takers, action takers will be the leaders to the world.

I think 3 years ago, I couldn’t say something like that about AIESEC, because it always takes time to understand an organization and everything we do in AIESEC. When I was a freshman, I learned, now I'm older and have more experience in running AIESEC, so I understand all that. That’s the power of experience. Experience is not what happens to me. It is what I do with what happens to me. I never knew it fully until I truly make things happen step by step by myself. I hope all of the members that joined AIESEC can have their own experience and can proudly share it with people someday.

Learning something new every day, that's what I always remind myself since I really want to get motivation from different things, not just only from AIESEC. Recently, I am randomly reading blogs and articles online and I found lots of interesting things. It's just so interesting to know about others' lives and what's happening on the other side of the world. It makes me feel so “new ", which keeps me going on and on.

Life is the art of drawing without an eraser.

~John Gardner

Every step that I take in live is part of my drawing. Technology makes it all happened. It's so amazing to record the little or big things that happen in life. Time passes without being recognized, how many moments in our lives could be captured?

Making a movie, the basic and original way is to take tons of Pictures and then play them one by one, during the process of playing these still images, we see movements that are how anime made, a moving image. Hm... e.g.

   -------->

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In AIESEC, when we talk about planning, we always talk about big picture or a vision. When I look at the relationship between still images and moving images, i was thinking... the anime is the picture that we want to build up, like a vision, say 2008, and then the still images are plans and steps. If the still images are not being taken little by little, detailed and carefully, the anime won’t be smooth when we play it. So to make a perfect smooth and lively anime, we need to take every still images carefully.

Planning is like making an anime. From zero to hero...

1. Firstly, thinking about what kind of anime that you want (Vision building)
2. Then do a briefly draft the frames for making the still images so we could see the procedure of making it. (Year Planning)
3. After that, we will start to work on a detail drafting, 1 second of anime is made of 24 frames, we need everything looks clear in every frame. (Action planning)
4. And then we start to take the still images step by step. (Implementation)
5. Put all still images in Flash and play and pre-view if the quality is good (Evaluation)
6. If no, we might need to start it again or delete some bad and blur images (Improving)
7. Finally, a great and smooth anime would be done (Achieving the vision)

Everything is starts from small things, who would ever knew that the pictures that we have in hands could make an awesome movie, reflecting human lives??

What I am doing every day is achieving a big big picture.
If it's a picture that told by a puzzle, then I am one of the thousands of puzzles.
If it's a picture that told by a movie, then I am one of the millions of frames.
If it's a picture that told by a novel, then I am one of the pages.

I'm part of it, this is my contribution though it's small… Still, I am there.

Planning

Had dinner with mentor -- Gary Wong. We discussed about how to organize the informal UBS award celebration and things around leadership and AIESEC.

Wow.. too many things well but very inspiring on some ideas from him.

1. Kick off my plan start by thinking about what I want to do instead of intensive transition
2. Fairness, communication, interest in people
3. Partnership

What do I want to do for AIESEC HK Session 0708? Only one thought in my mind...

" Half of the exchanges are raised and realized by non-EB members"

Capacity has been a big problem in LC for so many years, I have been so amazed by other AIESEC countries, lots of exchanges actually are done by members, not EBs. I was thinking why it happens in other countries but not AIESEC HK? Why all EBs in @HK are working like dogs while very few members are involving in the functional work. Ecery LC has more than 100 members ( EBs + members from different year ) but only about 15-20 of them are functioning in an organization.. such a waste! It's very important... i believe that a well defined exchange team structure and well packaged PBoXes should be developed.

Well so many things in head suddenly.. need to write them all down and see what i can do with that.

Looking at my monthly priority, I feel better cos I got things to do and have better idea about what am I acheiving. The things I am doing with MC team is a very good experiecefor preparing myself to run for director. Be a good observer and learner is what I should do now.

Gary mentioned that I should also think about when I would like to make those things happen. Useful reminder. I seldom think about what should the goals should be happened, normally only wanna acheive things thatI planned before the session end. I guess it's not a good attitude of mine.. need to start to think about what picture I wanna see in different period. Anyway... damn tired , sleep sleep sleepZZzZZzzZZzz

Experience

Today, the professor of the HRM course said that companies are no longer using benefits or salary to attract people when they do recruitment, but company's values and experience.

Experience, she used IBM as an example. When we clicked on the website of IBM, they have an area for recruitment. Not too many information about the job vacancies but more about company's values, like " life balance ", which shows how they care about their employees and not to treat them like working machinese. Also, they rather try to describe what kind of quality they are looking for in people rather than qualification. They even have introduction abouttheir training and development program for their crews. So their recruitment actually is more like a mixture of job opportunities and PR stuff. They built up good reputation and image of their company to attract talents and retente the employees they have.

Professor said that HR recruitment is no longer about money or benefits selling but experience.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It led me to think about @XP. AIESEC 's product and core work is no longer about Exchange but Experience. An alumni asked us " What are the similarities and differences between @XP and WinXP "in EGM. Good question, why experience, why not benefits, why not something tangible but something abstract. But, what is experience?

To me, experience is something personal and supposed to be very unique. No one would have excately the same experience. Experiences are being created not being provided. Experience is a combination of a series of elements. To me, it is..

Personality (A)+ external enviroment(B, C, D .......etc) = experience.
i.e. A+B+D = XP A , A+C+D= XP B ........etc

Sometimes it's personality leads people to some kind of external environment, like ambitious people tend to go for challenging enviroment, mild people tend to stay in their comfort zone etc. Sometimes it's external enviroment affected us to build up some kind of personality, like single parents family kids tend to be tougher than others. There's no absolute formula for all that but the things that we have been through in our lives are very different, so our experiences supposed to be unique.

Why experience is so important in our lives? I think... maybe because experience is something life-long lasting, it had a start but no end til we died. Experience can be created so we all tend to create a better life ( so a better experience ) thats why the way we create our experience is so important. As a result, organizational experience ( I made it up lol ) is being introduced or become a trend to be used in companies (i think... :P )

The differences between personal experience (PXP) and organizational experience (ORGP) is that, ORGXP normally comes with a framework, cos it's made for acheiving some strategic goals for an organization. If this concept is correct, then ORGXP is like:

A provider provide a framework for target audience with unpredictable external elements = unique Organizational experience.

WinXP

Provider = Microsoft

Goal = To become the most user friendly system for retending and attracting as many users as they can.

Frame work = WinXP system / special function ( like you can set your computer back to specific date ) , WinXP Home / WinXP Profesisonal

Target audience = Users with different levels ( beginner / professionals )

Unpredictable external elements ( Virus / outdated function , so they have auto updates support and editional versions )

They are providing an XP that all users they have would be satisfied by this system, the experience that all user have would be quite depends on their interst, skills and needs to create their own experience with the system and company.

What about AIESEC?

Provider = AIESEC

Goals = To create more young leaders that have positive impact in society ( well in short, create change agents )

Frame work = 5 stages of AIESEC XP ( international exposure, leaderships skills, cultural sensitivies, practical skills etc different elements on different stages

Target audience = members

Unpredictable external elements = keep changing external enviroment ( issue based )

We are providing an experience that all members can choose how they want to be developed in AIESEC to be a leader. We dont plan for them but make and let them plan for themselves. We believe that the framework is the most effective way to acheive our goal so we want all members in AIESEC can follow the framework to create experiences by themselves.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Experience, amazing word to me. In chinese it's even more powerful-- " 經歷 ". Both words means you have to get through it with action and feel it by yrself, and very relevant to a self driven organization.

I love AIESEC and am willing to contribute a lot, because I like the idea of providing opportunities to people to create experiences. Experience is life changing and life-long lasting, has an beginning but no end, it keeps going and transforming in different way ( like from AIESEC to personal development or even to be an impact to society ).

Those who chose AIESEC, 有福了... well, damn long entry.

Frame

Today, the topic of Multimedia Production course was about Lens-Based media, like photography, movies, snapshots etc any production that made through lens. During the lessons, Tim talked about "Frame" a lot cos almost all of the media production are formed by frames, like TV, movies, fotos, even newspaper etc, he's right, almost everything is in a frame.

Frame, what does frame mean to we human beings? The way we interpretate the world is shaped by frames. People take pictures to tell what they see or what they want others to see, so the content in that frame is created and shaped by human.

Interesting things to think about. Ssometimes we see things through our own perspectives, we choose to see what we want to see, and sometimes we see things through other's eyes, like the way they locate the content in fotos, movies and TV etc, thats how media show us the world.

Very very interesting... I was thinking, we people love taking pictures or recording clips because we want to capture a beautiful moment or things that we think it's meaningful. Even when we look at ourself in the mirror, we tend to pose in front of it and see how I should stand or pose to make myself look goof in that frame ( the mirror ), so some people love taking pics of their profiles or from some angles because they know how to show the best of them within a frame.
We build frames and see things from the frames built by others. Im imaging... how is it we all of us are carrying a frame with us in hands to live every day, well we dont have that visble frame in hands but an invisble one built in our brain and eyes already.

AIESEC talks about challenge your worldview, the rationel is to break through those frames, we see things from our own perspective or see things by the "fact " that framed by others. The reality supposed to be understood and interpreted by our own eyes than what we see in frames :)

It all make sense again!

I'm going back to the start

Lots of things flashed in mind today, very very random. Like some scenes of things that are going to happen next year and some thoughts aboutthe things that I wanna do in this session, kinda confusing and complicated. Well but better than nothingi n head.

NLDS, the first conference of our team, lots of difficulties that we have to face and lots of decision making. Choices, either A or B, are A and B choices? Yes and No. Well I just hope that everything is going to be alright, somehow, it's just about mutual understanding and communication. Face to face talk can solve lots of problem and break lots of misunderstanding.

To handle the chaotic and random thoughts I have recently, I have to learn to be simple and start from the basic, don't jump around, be realistic.

I asked myself so many times if I'm capable to take a further step, well I guess its time to stop asking questions but work on it. Thought of starting by :

1. SWOT of AIESEC HK Exchange Area
2. AIESEC 2008 analysis, see how much I can acheive this year and next year
3. We do people development to establish network with people on different aspects. We hope to make a better world so people in the coming generations can enjoy and live well. Its all about people.

Some of them left us and I know we still need to go on as life is always be like that. We have to complete the things that they wanted to do but didnt acheive yet.

And so it is, just like you said it would be..

Cheer Up, we need to move on and do our things better for the sake of their wishes and blessing.

Nobody Said It was Easy

Shocking news I received last night. I randomly think about the past in AIESEC. I randomly think about what to do in AIESEC in the future and I randomly think about what am I doing in AIESEC.

Thoughts flashed in mind and hard t catch them all down one by one. Some of the random ideas are useful and could lead me think more well but some of them were quite weird and negative which confused me or de-motivated me.

Random thoughts don't have logic and not related to each other. Mangaing these random thoughts is a big challenge to me. I could have them when I was attending classes or when I was watching TV.

Being random is not good but not too bad, well I mean somehow it shows how sensitive you are toward things, once u hear or saw something, you got ideas flased in mind though it's not directly related to the thing you saw or heard. Creation, somehow is about random, being creative is about how to add meanings to random things to make them relevant.

Well I'm being random and talking to myself i guess.

Make a Difference

Today I attended the recruitment talk of AIESEC-LC-HKBU, gad very complicated feelings. Well I was born and been rasied in this LC, I felt like home when I stepped into the venue cos it's what I excately was doing at the time of the year last year. Watching my successors holding the session, my feelings was so different compared to last year. Deep down in my heart, I was praying for them and wishing that they would recruit good and passionate members.

Dr Ho, Mindy and Cafrany shared their experiences in @ with different perspectives. It's still powerful and inspiring to me after hearing so much sharing from different people. I guess it's the power of @, make you think and keep self reflecting.

2 years ago, I joined @ because of talking to Rita for so long in my interview, it took lmost 1.5 hours so it actually was not an interiew but more like chatting or sharing. I told Rita how i felt about the people i met and the confusion I have after getting in the univeristy. She shared about her experience to me and what she did in AIESEC. At that moment, i told myself I have to join this organization because I love people in this organization and I want to make a difference to the live i was living in as it's not what i wanted.

Make a difference, thats how i joined AIESEC. I learned and participated a lot throughout th year when i was a year one student. Then, time to make choices -- be the EB or not. Christy and I wanted to be the cabinets of AIESEC and thought that we could do and acheive a lot, however, i didnt know what i really was trying to acheive until I met my partners, Tiffany and Janet. We were the ICX fighters and swore to ourseleves that we would make a difference in ICX area of @BU, we wanted to create a legend. Again, it's about making a difference.

Now I'm the Exchange Partnership Manager of AIESEC Hong Kong. I had been lost and de-motivated and confused about what led me here to take up this position. Well surprisingly, again, it's about I want to make a difference. I wanted to make a difference about the working model I had and walk out form the comfort zone. Somehow, i tend to do things that I'm good in and familiar with, running for MC was a challenge for me becasue i had always thought that I was not a trategic person. Well but not, working with new team mates and gain new perspectives, I think I actually can do it and it lead me to go for another place in AIESEC... My next step.

Talking with team mates, I just realized how much I actually want to do and change about AIESEC Hong Kong. To make another difference, Idecided to run for the Exchange Director of AIESEC Hong Kong Session 0708. :)

Everything in AIESEC is about making a difference. I can't wait to keep throwing starfish in AIESEC!

Challenge your World View

Had a nice chat with CK and Chan Alvin today, we shared about thoughts on some topics in AIESEC, like leaders, Challenge your world view and the fture of AIESEC Hong Kong.
Really enjoyed the dinner with them :)

Challenge your world view, it is the the first thing that all AIESEC members would experience once they joined AIESEC or being introduced AIESEC. However, it looks like Challenge your world view session or elements would be only inserted in the stage of introduction to AIESEC. Looking back on the time I had in AIESEC, i seldom found these moments, especially being a LC EB. I just focus on the the JD of the position and what I should had acheived and what should we executed rather than stop and think about what's going in the rest ofthe wrold.

Challenge your world view is something essential and should be included in all stages throughout the @XP. I think we missed something... It looks like Challenge your world viw has become one of the items on the checklist that we must do on the stage on introduction to AIESEC, somehow it alienated the meaning behind why we need to challenge member's world view. We are talking about developing Global Leaders, supposed all memebers should be opened to gain new perspectives and be sensitive to culture. Well but most of the memebers in AIESEC HK don't have the characaristic, even myself.

Also, we tend to be challenged but not to challenge others by voicing out our opinion. A leader should has their stand on different issues. It's too passive that we just keep challenging by facts and others but not to challenge others by our point of views, we have change this culture. Students in HK are so afraid of speaking out their opinion or expressing their ideas, it's one of the obstacles that we need to help them to get through and change by encouraging them to speak up.

One of the values of AIESEC is living diversity. The first step of living diversity is to voice out your opinion on things, somehow it's the process of challenging other's worldview, when you get feedback or response from others which is quite different from your perspective, then it's your turn to be challenged the world view.
It's how it goes. I hope to see more and more outspoken and active members in this year...

Wow... not well organized thoughts...awful.

Learning Circle

I had MC team meeting tonight, one of the items that we talked about was Learning Circle. Gary suggested to have a learning circle activity like every month, MC team or LC members are welcome to join.

This idea motivated me, finally! It's not just between Chan Alvin, Nelson and I but more people to join. AIESEC people tend to talk AIESEC things whenever they meet, in conference, in campus or even in causal meeting. Lerning circle is more about the things that you learned or would like to share around an issue or topic rather than just about AIESEC. It's my favourite part in 6 learning environment.

Sharing thoughts toward things makes me recoginized how much we care about an issue and how little i actually knew about the issue. Listening to other's idea is just amazing, amazed by how others actually care the issue like me and amazed by how people think about things. It's always fun to learn something new from others.

Nadya was right, we have too little time on talking about things about life and stuff, informal causal talk that un-related to AIESEC is needed. I was too stressful and drove myself a bit extreme, now i should slow down a bit and enjoy the network and diversity in AIESEC.

When we have a clear mission, we would ignore the enjoyment or little wisedom around us. I have to learn to stop and think every day.

AIESEC is part of my life and my life is not just about AIESEC.

Every Day Starts Today

Co-operating with EOC on a project called " Career Challenge 2006 " recently. We talked about the issue around Blog and Steroetypes in society. I was thinking... yea maybe i should have a blog for myself since I'm experiencing a lot and new things every day, I need to capture these moments and share with other people.

The Topic of my blog is My AIESEC Journey. I have my personal cyber dairy like Xanga, to write down something about my daily life with friends, family and school life etc, however, when I read the Xanga that I posted in the last 2 years, most of the things I talked about is AIESEC so I think It's time to create a blog about AIESEC.

We AIESEC people always talk about life-changing experience which is our AIESEC experience. We manage this experience and live in this experience, I wonder how much i gain and give to manage and live from this @XP? It's the reason why I want to write down the things I experienced in AIESEC and how AIESEC influence my life.

Every day, it's about experience, it's not necesassary to push myself to work on AIESEC things to gain the @XP, but it's about how to live up my life with values and vision. Feel the world and let myself be part of the world.

Every Day starts Today.
